Fall Newsletter
|
My last newsletter was written in May. Where in the world did the summer go? Actually what I should say is, did we actually have a summer? Strange few months! Well, we survived another produce season, and I have to say this year was SO MUCH more enjoyable than last year. We had lots of people come and visit us again, and met so many new folks too. Those of you who have visited us before probably noticed we tried a few new things this year. Some worked well, others maybe not so much. We planted a larger variety of vegetables this year, and they seemed to go over well. Beets and onions turned out to be the surprise of the summer. We learned very early that we need more of both next year. People really like beets! Our fall produce sales went over pretty well too. Just for fun we planted some “winged gourds” and were they ever fun to pick and sell! What a crazy assortment of things we ended up with. Our squash also sold very well, so we plan to have a larger variety of squash next year. Tomatoes were another great seller. We did plant close to 300 plants, but like many other people this year, our tomatoes succumbed to the late blight, so we lost probably half of our tomato crop. We’ll try again next year! We have completed our “end of season” overview, and have some new ideas in store for next year. We will be adding more raspberries as well as trying some more vegetables. Our new greenhouse helped us start more vegetables for our own use, and we plan to start even more next year so we can offer more plants for our customers to purchase. Had a lot of people offer advice and ideas on what they would like to see us grow. That was very helpful! Our new “corn box” (sandbox with shell corn in it) was a great addition for our youngest visitors. We also had a record number of daycares and preschools visit us. The baby goats and “strange looking chickens” were a hit with the kids. We took lots of pictures, and will soon be adding them to our webpage, so be sure to check them out at www.jellismarket.com. Lots of people, lots of fun and lots of great memories. That’s what we love about what we do………seeing all of you enjoy coming to our farm and getting good food to take home with you! It is the end of October, so our produce season is over for the year. We will have eggs and chickens available all winter, as well as honey. If you want to stop by for any of these things, please feel free to do so. Just please call in advance so we know you are coming and can plan to be here. We do venture “away from the farm” sometimes during the winter months! Either call the hotline at 262-593-5133 or email me at sknoebel@jellismarket.com. We love to see people even during the winter! ************************************* If you received this newsletter and would prefer to be removed from our mailing list, just send me an email.
