Our Story

Jelli's Market started out in 2001 as a pick your own strawberry farm near Helenville, Wisconsin.  Jelli's is owned by Steve and Jody Knoebel, along with their 3 daughters - Jessica, Lindsay, and Elizabeth. Jessica is in her final semester at UW-Eau Claire, graduating with a degree in business administration.  Lindsay is a junior at UW-River Falls and is studying Animal Science and Plant Science.  Libby is in 8th grade and spends most of her spare time running cross country and track and tending to her farm animals.

The name of our market - Jelli's - is a result of combining the names of our three girls.   We think that is a pretty unique name!

We planted our first strawberry plants in the spring of 2001.  We LOVE strawberries and until that time always had a small patch of our own.  When considering how many plants to put in that year, we thought we might plant a few extra plants so we could have some extra berries to sell to neighbors.  A few plants turned into 25,000 and we were in the strawberry business!

In 2012, we will have 10 acres of strawberries.   Over the past few years we have added other produce items that have become popular with our customers.    We start out the spring with greenhouse plants.  We grow all of our own vegetable plants, but also plant extras of everything so we have some to sell to our customers for their gardens.  We also grown quite a few flowers out of plugs that we purchase.

We plant peas – both edible pod and shell peas, that are ready to be picked at the same time strawberries are ready.  We also have over an acre of asparagus,  two acres of raspberries and almost two acres of blueberries. .  Our three acre garden consists of green beans, sweet corn, tomatoes, zucchini, and many other produce items during the summer.  Our entire produce season runs from about mid May when asparagus is ready to late October with our fall harvest which includes pumpkins, gourds, squash, corn stalks and indian corn.

We are excited about our two new ventures, our apple orchard and our on farm store.   Our goal is to have a pick your own apple orchard in a few years.  The store was new in 2011 and has turned out to be a wonderful addition to our farm.  We can display all of our produce nicely in it, and we also sell other items throughout the year, including our own honey, maple syrup, baked goods and other items.  We have plans to add many new items to the store in 2012.

All of our produce is pick your own, but we do pre-pick limited quantities every day too.   We always take orders and try to answer our “hotline” whenever possible.

In addition to our strawberry and produce business, we spend time at our "real jobs"  which is cash cropping.  We run about 1,500 acres of soybeans, corn, wheat and hay.  We have a herd of 50 Angus cows and also raise Holstein heifers.

We are located about 5 miles off of I-94, about halfway between Madison and Milwaukee, near Johnson Creek.  For exact directions to our farm, see the directions and hours page.
